YOUNGSTERS from an East Renfrewshire school took part in the Run for Heroes challenge to raise money for frontline workers.

Encouraged by their teacher Danielle McAdam, pupils flew the flag for St Thomas’ Primary, in Neilston, by running for 5km in and around the village.

A knee injury meant Ms McAdam, 30, was unable to take part but she got involved by donating £5 on behalf of each child who completed the challenge.

She told the Barrhead News: “As part of my primary seven’s online learning provision, I’m always trying to find something fun for the kids to do, so I set my full class the Run for Heroes 5k challenge and, on receipt of receiving screenshots as evidence of their run, I offered to donate £5 per pupil, which I was honoured to do on their behalf.

“I donated £125 on behalf of my 25 pupils."

“I felt a bit down that I couldn’t do my part to support frontline workers, so I set the class the challenge,” she said.

“Usually when I set them tasks to do, they’ll have them done by the Friday but every single one of them had their 5K challenge done the next day, which was great.

“I just loved their enthusiasm.”

Having shared their achievement on social media, several businesses rallied round to offer support, with donations boosting the fundraising total to £425.

Ms McAdam added: “Myself and the class would like to publicly thank Kerr Brown Partnership Solicitors, in Glasgow, Carpet Appeal, in Clarkston, and We Are Five Percent, which is an online digital marketing company.

“Having spoken with the managers of these companies, they are now keen – on behalf of the pupils – to get their employees involved, ultimately raising more funds for our heroic NHS workers.”

Robert Kerr, of Kerr Brown Partnership, added: “It is great to see the pupils getting involved in this.”
