New recruit Mikael Mandron is targeting goals after signing a two-year deal with St Mirren.

The striker was unveiled by Saints on Friday and made his debut as a second-half substitute during the 2-0 Renfrewshire derby defeat against Morton at Cappielow on Saturday.

The visitors were left counting the cost of missed chances as Robbie Muirhead tucked home a penalty with 10 minutes left, before Lewis McGrattan bulged the net three minutes later to double the Greenock team’s lead.

However, Mandron is confident he can bag plenty of goals for the Buddies in the months ahead.

The 28-year-old hitman said: “I've seen the way we play, putting crosses into the box and stuff.

"I’ll be making sure I try to get on the end of them and hopefully I can score many goals.”

Mandron is relishing the challenge of trying to build upon St Mirren's top-six finish last season.

He also told how Buddies boss Stephen Robinson was a huge influence in his decision to sign for the Paisley side.

“I’m so happy to be here,” added Mandron, who netted three goals in his five-month spell at Motherwell last term.

“I spoke to the manager before signing and everything he said really resonated.

“He’s a big reason as to why I’m here today, after speaking to him and also to some of the players that have played for him.

“They only had great things to say, they all said how great a manager he is and I was very keen to come here.

“With how well the team did last season, we are obviously trying to build on that, finish top-six again and obviously try to kick on as well."
