Arthurlie have paid tribute to club legend Ian Ashcroft after his death at the age of 60.

Ashcroft, whose former teams also include Hamilton Accies, Albion Rovers and Pollok, tasted Scottish Junior Cup and League Cup glory in his time as a player before moving into coaching with Beith.

In a statement posted online, an Arthurlie spokesperson said: “Arthurlie is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Iain Ashcroft.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the Ashcroft family and friends.”

Former Arthurlie manager Craig Palmer, who was coached by Ashcroft as a young player, described him as an "absolute gent."

Ashcroft’s son David expressed his gratitude to those who had passed on their condolences.

He said: “Thank you very much to all at Arthurlie and for all the lovely comments.”

Arthurlie were without a game at the weekend but are due to return to action this Saturday as they host Kilwinning Rangers at Dunterlie, with kick-off at 2pm.
