JOHNSTONE Burgh manager Jamie McKim has praised his players after they were crowned League Two champions.

The Scottish Junior Football Association awarded the title to Burgh this week, using an 'average points per game' system to determine final placings after the coronavirus lockdown caused an early end to the campaign.

Although McKim's team was in fifth place at the time of the shutdown, they had up to 10 games in hand on teams above them and trailed the leaders by just eight points.

Burgh ended up with an average of 2.79 points per game after 13 wins from 14 matches, which put them ahead of rival Muirkirk’s total of 2.21 points.

And McKim insists his players thoroughly deserve to be named champions.

He told Gazette Sport: "We had won 13 out of 14 games and, when you look over all the Junior tables, we had the best defensive record.

“Everybody who tries to slate us must be really ill-informed because our players have worked really hard to get to where we are.”
