Two Giffnock North AAC athletes have been selected as part of a 50-strong team to compete at the Manchester International on Wednesday, August 14.

A serious showcase of sport, the Manchester International will see teams from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ulster, Wales, GB Juniors and international teams coming together to compete over the day.

Newton Mearns star Erin Wallace, fresh from a seventh place finish in the 1500m final at the European Under-20 Championships in Boras, Sweden last month, will be racing over a mile in Manchester as she returns to action.

Fellow Giffnock athlete Fraser Angus, who was part of a Scotland 4x100m relay team that set a new meeting and track record at the Belfast International earlier this month, will line up in the 200m event as he aims to improve his 21.22 personal best.

Elsewhere, Giffnock North AC athlete Reuben Nairne set a new Scottish U17 pole vault record at the weekend at the British Athletic League.

Just one week after upping the long-standing previous best to 4.61m, Nairne went on to clear an incredible 4.70m at Scotstoun to set another new record and finish second behind an Irish athlete who cleared 4.71m.

Former Giffnock North high jumper David Smith, meanwhile, came out on top at the Citius Meeting in Berne, Switzerland, clearing a height of 2.21m for gold.
