A Barrhead teenager has been labelled the ‘future of MMA’ after a storming start to life in the octagon.
St Luke’s High School pupil Sean Clancy Jr has a record of two wins from two outings as an amateur mixed martial artist, steam-rolling his latest opponent with a second round TKO to further justify the hype.
And the confident 16-year-old, who began training with has dad Sean Sr before moving onto respected coach James Doolan, echoed the now-famous line by UFC great Conor McGregor that he isn’t in the sport to simply take part.
“I am going to be the best ever,” he told Barrhead Sport. “It’s just a matter of time, I have no doubt in my mind. I’m in this sport to be the best ever.
“My dad got me into this when I was two or three so I don’t have any memories of not doing this.”
Dubbed ‘the future’ of the sport in Britain by media outlet MMA UK, Clancy Jr does have all the attributes needed to make it in this game, developing at an extremely fast rate as he continues his meteoric rise through the amateur division.
Helping with his rise is veteran Doolan who has been training Clancy Jr for the past two years.

“James has been amazing for me,” Clancy said. “I started training with him since I turned 14 so I’ve been there a couple of years.
“It’s really weird being named the future of the sport here, but at the same time it’s really cool. All I can do is train as hard as I can and continue to smash people in the octagon.”
Clancy Jr’s next fight is expected to be announced shortly with an August or September date likely.
