Arthurlie boss Duncan Sinclair has revealed the club are on the verge of delving into the transfer window for the first time this summer with signing talks set to take place after training tonight.

The Lie gaffer told Barrhead Sport last week that he would take his time throughout the summer to ensure he brings in only what’s needed in terms of quality.

And Sinclair is certain he has identified that quality in the five players he is currently in talks with.

“We’ve been working away in the background to get some new faces in,” he said. “We’re talking to three or four at the moment and will be speaking to some more at training tonight. It’s still early days, though, and some boys like to look at all of their options.

“But we’re in the process of speaking to five players in total at the moment.

“It’s really good players we’ve identified and we’re talking to so we’re hopeful of getting them over the line.”

Sinclair continued: “We’ve been in contact with a couple of players from the Premiership and a couple from senior football as well.

“I’ve had a few meetings with the board and we’ll have another this week to look at the finances to help us move forward.

“As I’ve said before, I won’t rush into anything in terms of transfers. We did that last summer as we didn’t have any other choice but this summer will be different. That said, I am hopeful we will be closer to possibly completing some of the paperwork tonight after training.”

Discussions to bring in fresh faces may be well underway, but Sinclair admits he is somewhat frustrated at the pace of extension talks within his own squad, adding: “To be honest, talks with our own boys are all going a bit slower than what I would want but you’ve got to remember it’s still only May.

“You do have to get going at some point, though, so we hope it will be sooner rather than later on that front.”

One player who Sinclair has been able to tie down is highly-rated Lie U21 prospect Ross Urquhart who has penned his first senior contract.
And the gaffer was delighted with the capture amid interest from other clubs.

He said: “Ross is a top young player. He’s looked as comfortable in the middle of the park as our regular starters. I’m glad to get him on board for the season as he had an offer from Maryhill but (I) assured him he would get a chance here. He’s a talented lad so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
