Duncan Sinclair says it’s an exciting time to be at Arthurlie after they extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a well-deserved 2-1 victory at home to Rossvale on Saturday.

Lie, whose excellent run of form stretches all the way back to November, were made to sweat 10 minutes in after the Vale were handed a golden opportunity to take an early lead from the spot after a tangle in the box.

James Digney pulled off a fine stop to deny Liam McGonigle before parrying away the rebound as Lie’s goal remained intact.

The early scare only served to spark Arthurlie into life with Del McNab and Josh Payne both testing the visiting keeper.

Digney was called into action again in the opening stages of the second-half before Lie once again found their feet to force the breakthrough.

David Reid burst through the defence to test Jamie Donnelly in the Vale goal. With the rebound falling kindly for the Lie man, defender Craig Buchanan’s mistimed tackle saw the referee point to the spot for the second time as McNab himself stepped up to fire home his 22nd of the season.

The visitors were back on level terms 10 minutes later, however, after David Leadbetter’s throw-in was headed across goal for Gary McGrath to head in at the back post.

But, unlike last week where Lie were forced to settle for a point against Rutherglen Glencairn, the Barrhead side rallied in the final 15 minutes to nick a deserved winner.

After a powerful run from McNab, it fell kindly to Lee Roulston on the edge of the box and the midfielder made no mistake with a superb finish to secure maximum points in a win that saw Arthurlie record their first win since January due to postponements.

“We thoroughly deserved to win,” Sinclair told Barrhead Sport. “The team who wanted it more won in the end. We played really well in some patches and battled at stages as well.

“Some of the decisions were quite poor from the referee but I’m not here to talk about him, I’m here to talk about Arthurlie and how well we played. I’m over the moon with the result.

“It’s another box ticked in that we know we can beat the teams around us also challenging for promotion.

“It’s good to get a run of games going after some postponements. We want to play every week to keep the momentum going now. We have gone unbeaten now since November so it’s a good time for the club.

“It’s an exciting time to be at Arthurlie right now. Every match and every training session means something. I’m encouraging the boys to go out and play good football. They have all bought into that ethos. They deserve all the plaudits for this season - hopefully we can keep it going for the run in.”

Lie travel to James McGrory Park this weekend to take on St Roch’s in what Sinclair describes as a ‘must win’ match.

He added: “St Roch’s will be in our faces from the start on Saturday but this is must win for us. There’s no point in beating Rossvale and drawing with Rutherglen if we can’t go to St Roch’s and get something from it.”
