The ‘Lie midfielder was dismissed after 75 minutes at Dunterlie following an altercation with Gary McMenamin after a poor tackle from the Rob Roy man. Handbags ensued and the former St Mirren youngster was shown a straight red for lifting his hands to his opposite number, leaving his teammates to cling on for a 1-1 draw and force a replay.

Devlin is well aware he could have cost Arthurlie their chance of lifting the Scottish Cup for the first time since 1998, and was frank about his conduct.

He told Barrhead Sport: “I was just being stupid, it was a stupid mistake and I hold my hands up and admit that.

“It was just the heat of the moment and I am lucky that the rest of the guys managed to hang on to get a replay. I apologised after the game to the guys, I realise that I could have easily cost us a place in the next round.

“I will have to wait and see what ban I get, it could be two or three matches, but I have no complaints, it is my own fault. I will learn from it and won’t be so daft in the future.” Saturday’s match marked the first time Robert Downs took his spot in the dugout alongside assistant Stevie Aitchison, coach Alan Waddell and goalkeeping coach Phil Bannister.

Devlin, who joined the club from East Stirlingshire in the summer, admits having three managers over the course of the season has been a real eye opener, but that he has been impressed by what Downs has to offer.

He added: “Before this season I don’t think I had ever changed manager during a campaign. The only time I’ve had different managers is when I have moved club.

“Obviously it was hard when Gavin Duncan left, but we started picking up wins under Craig McEwan. To be fair there hasn’t been a lot of change so far, but it has been a bit weird and a bit of shock when each of them have left.

“But there is a good set of boys here and we have stuck together, it’s a brand new coaching staff and hopefully we can continue our good form and cut out some of the sloppy play from Saturday.”
