BARELY a few weeks after Ross Neilson of Arthurlie Bowling Club was offered a trial for the Scottish under-25 national side another youngster is on the verge of bringing more international honours to the club.
Daniel McCusker who joined the club three years ago has been invited to try out for the Scottish under-17 team.
Daniel, who is a pupil at Barrhead High School, only turned 15 two months ago and is the current Johnstone and District under-17 champion and Arthurlie Bowling Club under-25 champion. He is also a member of Renfrewshire County under-25 squad.
Many clubs in the area have thriving junior sections which goes to show that ‘it’s an old man’s game’ is a misconception.
As a result of the Commonwealth Games, interest in bowling has shown an upsurge and Bowls Scotland have initiated a Try Bowls campaign.
In support of this programme Arthurlie Bowling Club are holding an open day at their green in Arthurlie Park on Saturday, September 13 between 2pm and 5pm.
All ages from 10-years-old upwards are welcome and fully qualified coaches will be on hand to explain the finer points of the game. All equipment will be provided free of charge.
This would be an excellent opportunity see what other benefits the club has to offer.
Anyone anyone interested but unable to attend on the day can phone the club on 0141 881 8630 for more details.
