A man was rushed to hospital after being viciously battered by a thug in Paisley.

Officers were alerted to the violent incident at around 5pm yesterday afternoon.

A man, 43, was sitting with a pal near the railway arches between Whitesbridge Avenue and Ferguslie Park Avenue when he was approached by a gang of youngsters.

The group - made up of four lads and one female - hurled abuse at the two men before one yob set upon the man.

The attacker and mates made off towards Ferguslie Park.

The victim was treated at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for facial injuries, then later released.

Detective Constable Martyn Renfrew of Paisley police office said:  “Our enquiries are at an early stage into this incident and we are speaking with the injured man to find out more information on this incident, and trace the suspects.

“At this time I would urge any witnesses to the serious assault, or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact Paisley Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 2921 of Thursday July 18.
