TRIBUTES have been paid to a boy after a teenager died when he fell ill at a house in Hamilton.

We reported previously how police are investigating the death.

Officers were called to a property in Pitreavie Court, Hamilton, at around 3.30am on Wednesday after the 17-year-old fell ill.

Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Hairmyres in East Kilbride.

He later died at the hospital, Police Scotland confirmed. It is understood one line of inquiry is that the death may be drug-related.

The lad has been named locally as Brandon Rice as touching tributes were paid on social media.

One loved one wrote: “Can’t believe I’m writing this, but RIP, Brandon. You weren’t just my family you were my best friend. You were one of the strongest boys I knew and had been through so much but always kept a smile on your face. I love you so much. Fly high, angel. You will be missed.”

One tribute said: “RIP to one of the best brothers ever. He got his wings this morning. Can’t believe you’re gone! I only have one serious picture but we have so many good memories that I will keep in my heart. I loved it when you would take me to the cinema when I was down and Ireland is good and all the banter we had at home and you winding me up all the time. I mean I had you wrapped my finger lol. I don’t know who I’m gonna watch Love Island with now lol. Hope you have a good time up there and I miss you so much.”

His brother Owen simply wrote: “Love u bro.”

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.

Two teenage girls, aged 16 and 17, and a 16-year-old boy who were also in the property at the time were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

They are not thought to be seriously ill.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “At about 3.30am on Wednesday, July 17, officers attended a house in Pitreavie Court in Hamilton following a report that a 17-year-old male had taken unwell. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Hairmyres where he died. 

“A post-mortem will take place to establish his cause of death which is currently being treated as unexplained. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. 

“Two female youths, aged 16 and 17 years, and another male youth, aged 16 years, who were also in the property at the time, was taken to the University Hospital Hairmyres as a precaution. They are not believed to be seriously ill.”
