It came after a survey last week showed support for an independent Scotland would be at 53 per cent Johnson became PM.

Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, who appeared on the show, said the report is “food” for Nicola Sturgeon before displaying his intimate knowledge of Scotland’s constitutional debate.

“She [Sturgeon] would love to read this morning that Scotland will have devolution.

“I think that the United Kingdom is stronger together than they are apart.

“I mean, for goodness sake, Scotland, by itself? How’s it going to survive? It has … what does it have? … oil, and a monster in a lake … and … whisky.”

Following his comments, glamour model Nicola McLean, who was also on the panel, added Irn-Bru into the mix.

Burrell also added that breaking up the Commonwealth would "hurt the Queen" and that he "wouldn't like to see them be detached from the United Kingdom." He added: "I think they belong to the United Kingdom and they are better off being part of it."
