A Barrhead pub has issued an apology for "confusion" over an April Fools' Day prank.

Lochy's, which is situated on Main Street, issued an update on social media following the mishap.

The pool hall and sports bar had posted on Facebook on April 1 that it would begin serving "early morning pints" at 9am.

The statement read: "You asked… we listened. From tomorrow, Lochy’s will officially be serving pints from 9am daily.

"Whether it’s a morning lager or coffee just isn’t cutting it… we’ve got you covered.

"Breakfast + pint deals are now available from opening. No booking required – walk-ins welcome.

"See you in the morning."

This would have been in breach of the laws in Scotland, which state that alcohol cannot be sold before 10am in licensed premises.

Despite being in jest, it has been claimed by staff on social media that neighbours and local pubs complained about the "announcement".

This, in turn, led to an apology being issued to all parties, including the local authority.

A follow-up statement on social media read: "Alright… we’ll hold our hands up on this one.

"Our April Fools' post about 9am pints clearly didn’t land the way we thought it would.

"To our neighbours, local pubs [who apparently we’ve enraged too] and our partners at the council — we apologise for any confusion [and chaos] it caused.

"That was never our intention. No, we are not opening at 9am… and no, early morning pints are not on the cards [as funny as some of you thought it was].

"On a serious note — we take our responsibilities to the local community properly, and we’re committed to making sure Lochy’s is run the right way.

"If we can assist on this matter any further please get in touch.

"Lesson learned… we’ll keep the April Fools' a bit safer next year."

East Renfrewshire Council was approached for comment.
