Barrhead Artists' annual exhibition is taking place this weekend at the St Andrew’s Parish Church, held in collaboration with the Levern Camera Club.
Taking place over two days, the exhibition will showcase over 100 paintings from 16 artists, besides plenty of photographs from camera club members, with the majority of works available for sale.
There will be a preview night for friends, family and art club members on October 18, before the show opens up to the public on October 19. Entrance is free, and the exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm.
Club member and Barrhead resident Archie Brock is coordinating the show this year. He said the club was looking to build on the success of last year’s exhibition.
“The show went really well last year,” he said. “Every member of the club sold at least one painting, which is very unusual really. We tend to sell around 25% of the paintings on display, which is pretty good for an art club.
“The prices are not high, they range from £20 up to a couple of hundred. But it seems to go down quite well with the local people, who support us by buying the odd painting. I buy them myself sometimes.”
As well as encouraging people to come down to the annual exhibition, Archie also welcomed people to attend Barrhead Artists’ Thursday evening meetings at the Auchenback Resource Centre.
“I joined Barrhead Artists 25 years ago,” said 85 year old Archie. “I was just a boy then! It’s a social thing, you go down and meet people, have a chat, walk around and see what they’re doing.
“It’s quite relaxed. It’s not an intense high level art club with competitive people in it. It’s just a wee gathering of people who like to do a bit of painting and chat, get some hints and tips.
“Anybody is very welcome to come along to a session and try it out.”
The Barrhead Artists annual exhibition is open to the public on October 19 from 10am to 4pm at the St Andrew’s Parish Church.
