1. St Luke’s head teacher’s delight at MBE ceremony
A popular head teacher earned special praise from The Queen for her services to education when she attended Buckingham Palace to collect her MBE. But it wasn’t only Patricia Scott’s professional achievements that caught Her Majesty’s eye during the once-in-a-lifetime presentation ceremony. The St Luke’s head teacher spoke of her delight at coming face-to-face with the Monarch and revealed that Her Majesty admired Mrs Scott’s outfit which included a Scott tartan wrap pinned with a poppy brooch, in honour of the 100th anniversary of the First World War this year.
2. Villages secure new investment
Dams to Darnley, Neilston and Uplawmoor won a massive investment grant from the Scottish Government to boost businesses, create jobs, and regenerate communities.
3. Robyn twinkles in cracking new role
A budding ballerina was preparing herself for her biggest role yet. Robyn McKie, landed the female lead role of Clara in 2014’s Scottish Ballet Christmas production of classic The Nutcracker.
4. Science experiments spark pupils’ interest
St Thomas’ pupils got into the nitty gritty of science as part of Science Fun Day. The children were encouraged to come to school dressed as scientists with lab coats and goggles, just to add that authentic laboratory feel.
5. Barrhead scouts enjoy informative visit to Asda
Asda Barrhead welcomed local scouts to its store to learn all about food sourcing and how it is stored. The visit included a behind-the-scenes look at the warehouse, where they learned about the different ways the supermarket recycle food waste and packaging. Barrhead Scout Group were also taught about healthy eating and the importance of being responsible with money.
6. Shelving Black Friday to help those in need
Big-hearted shoppers rallied round to help make sure struggling families would not go hungry. Customers and staff at Barrhead Tesco shunned the bargain hunting frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday to concentrate instead on thinking about those who can’t afford a meal. Renfrewshire South MSP Hugh Henry joined them and Councillor Elaine Green at the store in his constituency to collect his own basket of donations to go to the East Renfrewshire Foodbank.
