Whitecraigs Tennis Squash and Fitness Club hosted a special exhibition match to mark the opening of refurbished courts.

The sports club refurbished three squash courts over the summer and celebrated their re-opening with a special match between two of the club’s top players.

Chris Murphy, club champion, and top division one player Harry Anderson showcased their skills on the upgraded courts in front of members of the popular club.

Hassan Bhatti, Squash Convener at the club, organised the event. He said: “I’m pleased to have so many people come down and support our event, I wanted to do something to mark the occasion.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming our juniors, club players and members of the community along.”

All four walls of the club’s three squash courts were upgraded as well as improvements to the roof above the back bar and lounge area of the club.

Hassan said: “The last refurb of the court was maybe about 20 years ago, so the courts were in quite an old state and desperately needed to be refurbished.

“Our squash members said they wanted it done so I’m pleased we made the decision and went ahead in doing it.

“In my opinion, we now have the best squash courts in the West of Scotland. We have really tried to give our members the best facilities and playing courts we could.”

These improvements have been welcomed by club members.

Hassan said: “We’ve had so much positive feedback from all the members, everyone is looking forward to playing on the courts.

“This has been a significant investment into the courts but it’s something we know will pay off, if not financially then through people’s enjoyment of playing at the club.”

The busy sports club has around 300 members who use the squash facilities with even more having memberships to the club as a whole.

The club will celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2027 and hopes to have even more facilities refurbished in time for the centenary celebrations.
