The findings of a recent inspection of a care home just outside Barrhead have been published by the Care Inspectorate.

The report issued today (Wednesday, June 5) follows an unannounced inspection of Parkhouse Manor Care Home by two inspectors on May 21 and 22.

Using a six point scale where 1 is unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent, the home was rated as good - 4 for “How well do we support people's wellbeing?” and “How good is our staff team?”.

It was rated as adequate - 3 in the following categories: “How good is our leadership?”, “How good is our setting?”, and “How well is our care and support planned?”.

The report listed the provider as Laurem Care Group Limited (who are owned by Carrick Care Family) and described how the home is registered to provide a care service to a maximum of 48 older people.

Of these people, four named individuals under the age of 65 can be cared for as agreed at registration.

At the time of the inspection, there were 39 people living in the home, which changed ownership and board of directors in September and appointed a new manager in March.

The key messages in the report were that people shared that they were happy with the care and support provided, helped by an increase in staff.

Quality assurance systems and recording, however, were found to need further work.

The new management team was said to be highly motivated to ensure good standards of care and support were provided to people living within the service.

The service was also said to be keen to work in partnership with people who used the service, relatives and staff to help take it forward.

Finally, inspectors stated that environmental improvements should be reflected within a plan and progress made.

To prepare for the inspection the Care Inspectorate reviewed information about the service.

This included previous inspection findings, registration and complaints information, information submitted by the service and intelligence gathered throughout the inspection year.

To inform their evaluation they spoke with five people using the service, two relatives and one visiting professional.

They also observed practice and daily life, and reviewed documents.

The report stated that no complaints have been upheld since the last inspection.

A spokesperson for the care home said: ‘Parkhouse Manor Care Home was recently taken over by the Carrick Care Family who have an exceptional reputation in operating care homes for the elderly across Scotland.

"In this short period we have made great strides to improving the service, as identified by the Care Inspectorate's findings, but we recognise that we have some way to go in our journey to providing exceptional care for our residents, similar to our other homes."
