A woman has been taken to hospital after a fire ripped through a sheltered housing complex.
As many as 10 fire trucks lined Barrhead's Main Street after a 999 call was made around 4pm today.
It is believed that residents were evacuated from the complex while hero firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
Police said the woman was taken to the nearby Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment."
A local shop worker said: “There were loads of fire engines here.
"We noticed the smoke around 4.15pm and within maybe 20 minutes, they were here and put the fire out.
"We saw people standing outside the building possibly evacuated but it was hard to see from across the street.
"It’s sheltered housing for the elderly so it’s sad but the firefighters, they were incredible.
"Nothing like this ever happened here before.”
Pictures from the scene show the damage caused by the fire with first-floor windows covered in soot.
Firefighters appeared to have extinguished the blaze just after 6pm and were seen at the scene clearing up their equipment.
It is not known if anyone was injured in the fire.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire at a premises on Main Street, Barrhead, around 4pm on Thursday, 25 April, 2024.
“Emergency services are in attendance and one woman has been taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment."
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 3.56pm on Thursday, April 25 to reports of a fire within a housing complex on Main Street, Barrhead.
"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene, where firefighters worked to make the area safe.
"One casualty was taken to hospital.
"Crews are no longer at the scene."
