THE leader of the Scottish Labour Party came to Kilwinning at the weekend to support the party's by-election candidate in the town.
The Kilwinning by-election will take place on May 9, with one candidate to be elected following the death of former Conservative councillor John Glover in February.
Anas Sarwar joined Mary Hume as she continued her campaign trail on Saturday, April 20.
The pair, who were joined by party activists, also spoke to several local traders about their needs and their hopes for the town.
The Labour leader spoke fondly of his visit and said: “The sun was shining in Kilwinning this morning!
“Mary Hume showed me around her beautiful town and told me people here are proud, but they’ve been let down.
“On May 9 we can change that and deliver the change Kilwinning needs.”
While Mary Hume added: “Having Anas in Kilwinning was brilliant. Our campaign team has been working incredibly hard speaking to voters over the last few weeks.
"People have been repeatedly telling us that Kilwinning is being let down, and Anas heard the same from people in the town centre.
“He also heard direct from some of local businesses who are doing everything in their power to bring more people into the town centre.
"It’s clear they need more support and I will be a champion for them in the council if elected on May 9.”
Ms Hume is joined on the ballot paper by Sheila Gibson (SNP), Ruby Kirkwood (Liberal Democrat), Chris Lawler (Conservative) and Ian Gibson (Scottish Family Party).
Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on the day, and votes will be counted electronically, and the result announced, on Friday, May 10.
