A campaign to “breathe new life” into a "local institution" has been launched as it faces an uncertain future.

Stamperland Community and Social Club, based in the heart of Clarkston, is facing potential closure due to declining attendance and financial pressures.

Described as a “cornerstone of local life since its inception in 1978”, the venue hosts a wide range of gatherings and live music events.

The club’s members are now bidding to increase membership and encourage the community to utilise the club’s facilities for private functions in order to safeguard its continuation.

Gemma Telfer, one of the club's members, told the Barrhead News: “The club was founded over four decades ago by a group of local residents and the club’s origins are a tale of remarkable commitment to community welfare.

“Their investment, obtained by re-mortgaging their homes, laid the foundation for a space that would see countless celebrations, performances and community events over the years.

“As the club faces this new challenge, the hope is that a new generation of members will step forward, much like the founders, to ensure the club remains a vibrant and integral part of the community.”

The club features a sports lounge, club bar and additional lounge, as well as a function suite that can host 120 people.

It is set to host a series of fundraising events and is appealing for the community’s support via donations of raffle items, people offering their talents for entertainment, or by simply spreading the word.

Gemma added: “Every gesture, big or small, is deeply appreciated. And please, if you would like to join us, drop into the club for a membership form.”

Existing members are invited to attend the club’s AGM on Thursday, April 25 at 7.30 PM.

According to the club, this meeting will be vital for shaping its future and during proceedings the executive committee will discuss the current financial status and present their strategic recovery plan.

Additionally, they will offer on-site membership renewals for the 2024-2025 period, which they say will not only streamline the process but also significantly aid the club during these critical times.
