A CID officer has reassured residents they are doing “all they can” to track down the thugs responsible for robbing a pensioner in his own home.

As we previously reported a trio of masked men broke into a 72-year-old man’s property in Newton Mearns on Monday, April 8 - nicking a four-figure sum of cash and a quantity of jewellery.

Detectives say the incident took place on Broomfield Avenue shortly after 7pm, with the gang then making off a short time later in a black Audi A3 or S3.

The incident has sparked fear in the community with many residents voicing their concerns online about break-ins in the area.

Detective Inspector Ross Jamieson of CID said: “We are acutely aware of the distress and upset of having your home broken into causes to families and the impact this has on the local community.

“I would like to reassure residents in Newton Mearns that we are doing all we can to trace those responsible.

“Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries, reviewing CCTV and additional patrols will be carried out in the area.

“We will continue our investigations until we track them down.

"We are determined to disrupt the activity of individuals and groups involved in these types of crimes and will do everything in our power to bring those involved to justice.”
