East Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau (ERCAB) is on the lookout for people within the local area to get involved with a new and exciting volunteering opportunity.

The initiative aims to help ERCAB expand their volunteering team and “engage the community to help the community”.

People volunteer for a variety of reasons and the chance to join the team is suitable for those who would like to make an impact in their community, possess empathy and have a desire to help others.

It is also an ideal opportunity for those who would would like to meet new people and expand their contacts or would like to boost their skills, CV and career prospects and gain an introduction to the world of employment.

Maureen Hill, volunteer coordinator at ERCAB, told the Barrhead News: “You get a full training programme, which is currently sitting at 14 weeks but is spread out and not condensed into 14 weeks by any means and involves going through a two-day induction with myself.

“From that it goes on to the advisor training programme, which is essential training for anybody who volunteers within the Citizens Advice Bureau and there’s other training with regards to how to use our systems.

“I’m trying to tailor the training to the actual roles to suit individuals.”

Barrhead News:

Those taking part could become a generalist advisor.

If one of ERCAB’s projects sparks an interest, once they have been through generalist advisor training and gained some experience, they could also link in and shadow with the individual running that project.

Some of the wide range of projects currently run by ERCAB include the patient advice and support service which helps people who have any concerns, feedback and comments about the NHS; energy advice; Money Talks Team; and the armed services advice project.

There are also admin volunteering opportunities up for grabs through the new initiative and these may particularly suit a younger volunteer, who is keen to explore whether working in an office is for them and build up office experience.

Those who would like to volunteer with ERCAB must be East Renfrewshire residents, within working age from 16 years old up, and have the right to work in Scotland.
