1. Exhibition of work by creative youngsters goes on show

Barrhead News: Youngsters from St Thomas' Primary created a dizzying array of works which were showcased in the school for all to see.

2. Easter egg hunt was cracking fun for youngsters

Barrhead News: Egg-static youngsters at Uplawmoor Primary celebrated Easter with a festive feast of activities. Kids of all ages got into the spirit of the season with egg painting and a hunt for elusive treats hidden by school staff.

3. Bowling club opens for the season

Barrhead News: Arthurlie Bowling Club declared its green open for the season. Despite the poor weather on the day a large number of members and visitors turned out for the opening. The first jack was thrown by Sarah McNeil who wished all a successful season in 2014.

4. Plans to revamp play park swing into action

Barrhead News: A “Boring” Barrhead park was to be transformed thanks to a £95,000 cash grant. Carnock Park was set to be given a complete overhaul after the Big Lottery announced it will fund a community-led makeover.

5. Crackdown on rogue traders

Barrhead News: Trading Standards, Police Scotland and counter fraud officers initiated a joint crackdown on home maintenance fraudsters. Working together, the partners jointly approached workers in East Renfrewshire to provide advice, check for rogue trading practices and identify benefits fraudsters. Roadside emissions and trading checks also took place with the environmental health team to help to ensure the air quality in East Renfrewshire is being maintained.

6. Stations spruced up thanks to garden firm

Barrhead News: A local garden business helped to make stations across East Renfrewshire come up roses. Darren Cryans of Barrhead’s Instant Impact Gardens landscape and design firm stepped in when his old school Barrhead High was looking for a business to partner up with to overhaul railway platforms. And, after the success of the project, Darren and his team started working with youngsters to spruce up two more train stations in the area.
