Rail passengers are continuing to face cancellations this morning with several lines closed pending line safety checks and repairs following Storm Isha.

Among the lines closed is the Cathcart/Neilston/Newton line with the ScotRail app showing that almost all journeys between Glasgow Central and Neilston are currently cancelled until just before midday.

Some trains between Glasgow Central and Barrhead are still running.

ScotRail has said that all services will be suspended from 7pm tonight (Tuesday, January 23).

There will also be no rush hour services on Wednesday morning, as high winds and heavy rain batter the country once again.

A statement on their website said: “Network Rail has taken the decision to close the railway to passenger services while the worst of the weather hits in order to keep customers and staff safe.

“Trains departing before 7pm will run to their destination but may be delayed by speed restrictions.

“On Wednesday, all routes will need to be checked for damage in daylight before trains resume.”

“As with Storm Isha over the weekend, strong winds of up to 70/80 mph are expected.

"This could lead to trees and other debris falling onto the tracks, trapping trains and putting people in danger,” it added.

“Line closures will continue into Wednesday.

“Each route will have to undergo a safety inspection, which means it will be later on in the day before any trains can run.”

Tickets for travel dated January 20 to 26 can now be used any day this week, up to and including Friday, January 26.

This means that these can be used before or after the date printed on the ticket.

Customers whose journey has been cancelled or disrupted can get a fee-free refund at scotrail.co.uk/refund.

People are also being warned that it is vital that to check journeys before travelling.
