The council has compiled a checklist of frequently asked questions (FAQs) following the start of a 12-month project to upgrade and improve a major road between Barrhead and Newton Mearns.

Work on the Aurs Road project started this week on Monday, January 8, with the full stretch from the junction of Springfield Road to the junction of Stewarton Road set to be shut until December.

The FAQs answer questions such as 'where will the crossing point be on Aurs Road?' and 'are there plans to improve pedestrian and cycle access from Stewarton Road?'.

The works will transform the route from a winding, single-carriage road to a safer, straighter road with a new active travel route and waterside promenade overlooking Balgray Reservoir.

Diversions are currently in place via Stewarton Road, Nitshill Road and Darnley Road.

Being led by the council, the "ambitious" £22.68million project is being funded through £12.72million from the Glasgow City Region City Deal, which is made up of £5.5million in funding by both the UK and Scottish governments and £1.72million from East Renfrewshire Council.

The rest of the funding is being provided by Transport Scotland through Sustrans' Places for Everyone programme, the Scottish Government's Bridge Fund, and developer contributions from new house-building projects in the area.

During the closure, essential reservoir maintenance works will also be carried out on behalf of Scottish Water.
