Barrhead News: 1. Barrhead youngster Kyle O’Neill, 11, who had been snowboarding since the age of 7, was already training with Team GB. In December 2013, he took gold at the Scottish Schools Board-Cross Competition representing Cross Arthurlie Primary. 

Barrhead News: 2. Arthurlie made it through to the third round of the West of Scotland Cup after a narrow 3-2 win over Kilsyth Rangers.

Barrhead News: 3. Hot-footed youngsters at St John’s Primary honed their shooting skills at an after school club. Girls from the senior classes took part in the sessions every Friday. Our photographer was on hand as pupils went head-to-head in a friendly game inside the school hall.

Barrhead News: 4. St Thomas’ Primary was a sea of colour as youngsters donned their onesies for a game of dodgeball. Pupils took part in a charity day at the school in an effort to raise money for Heartstart. 

Barrhead News: 5. One of the first men from Barrhead to be knighted by the Queen stepped down from his government post. Scotland’s top doctor Sir Harry Burns quit his post to concentrate on fighting health inequalities, the Scottish Government announced. 

Barrhead News: 6. Pupils from Barrhead High planted trees and conducted a clean up at the old Waterworks site at Glasgow road in Barrhead.
