From next week a charge is to be introduced for those charging their electric vehicle (EV) at Patterton railway station.

ScotRail’s EV charging network is currently free for all users but from January 8, a standard electrical vehicle charging tariff of £0.43p/kWh will be charged at all of the rail operator's EV points.

In addition, an overstay cost of £12 per 12 hours will apply.

It follows a decision by charge point owners, including ScotRail, to introduce or update their charging tariff to “ensure their charging estate can be maintained, remain accessible and financially sustainable.”

This it is said will allow “continued investment in line with the growth of the network.”

There are currently 162 EV connections at 61 ScotRail stations across Scotland, including one East Renfrewshire station, Patterton, which has two connections.

Access to ScotRail’s EV charging points is via ChargePlace Scotland’s (CPS) website or app.

CPS is The Scottish Government’s national EV charging network and users can register free of charge.

Elsewhere in Scotland, from January 3 an introduction or update of charge point tariffs was introduced by the following charge point owners - Barcaldine Castle, Homelands-Fife, Intermoor Ltd, Mallaig Harbour Authority, Scottish Borders Council, Scottish Borders Council, Wheatley Group, University of Edinburgh and The Powfoot Golf Hotel.

Along with ScotRail those introducing or updating from January 8, include Moray Council, Stirling Council and the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

With the new tariffs in a host of places in Scotland, ChargePlace is advising drivers to check local signage, the CPS website map and tariff list before connecting to avoid any unexpected charges.
