A section of the main pathway at Dams to Darnley Country Park will be closed during lengthy works to upgrade and improve a major road.

Aurs Road between Barrhead and Newton Mearns it to shut for almost a year from next Monday, January 8.

For the duration of the works, the core path B4 at the country park will be closed from where it crosses the Brock Burn inlet at Balgray Reservoir to where it crosses the Brock Burn at the southern part of Ryat Linn Reservoir.

A post on the Dams to Darnley Country Park Facebook page said: “As part of the Aurs Road project, which starts on January 8, a section of the main country park path either side will unfortunately be closed for the duration of the works.

“As you head in the direction of Aurs Road along the Balgray Reservoir path, coming from Balgraystone Road, you won't be able to go any further than the bridge over the Brock Burn.

“With the closure of Aurs Road, we are taking the opportunity to resurface this section of the path, whilst Scottish Water are also infilling one of their redundant weirs which has a weak deck surface.

“Coming from the Darnley side, the main country park spinal path will be open to just before the Ryat Linn waterfall, but not beyond towards Aurs Road."

It is anticipated that the closure of the section of path will last for 49 weeks until December 20.

Pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and all vehicles will be unable to use it, except those associated with the works and emergency service vehicles attending an incident.

“We apologise for the inconvenience to country park visitors, in particular because of the lack (of) alternative routes close by,” the post added.
