Barrhead News: 1. From Barrhead to Balmoral — an award-winning bull from a farm in the town was bought by The Queen’s royal estate. Jock the 5th of Woodneuk was named the best bull in Scotland at the 2009 Royal Highland Show and swept the board at a local level. In 2014 we reported how he had attracted royal attention and was on his way to HRH The Queen’s Scottish home at Balmoral.

Barrhead News: 2. East Renfrewshire Council launched its short course programme for spring, lined up by the team at Eastwood Park Theatre.

Barrhead News: 3. Soldiers across East Renfrewshire were set to benefit thanks to a generous donation of £4,500 by Barrhead’s Freemason’s lodge. Members from the Cochrane Street building raised the substantial sum by participating in numerous events such as sponsored walks and dances.

Barrhead News: 4. Youngsters across East Renfrewshire were hooping for joy after a new league was set up thanks to a bumper Lotto grant. The league was established after the sports services team at East Renfrewshire Council secured a grant of nearly £9000 from the Lottery’s Awards for All programme.

Barrhead News: 5. A top national DJ dropped in for a visit for the re-opening of Barrhead’s Youth Health Centre. The service, aimed at youngsters aged between 12 and 25-years-old was overhauled in response to the needs of East Renfrewshire’s young people. Capital FM breakfast show host DJ Jennie Cook was in town to open the revamped youth health drop-in service.

Barrhead News: 6. The council's sports services was awarded £5,000 from sportscotland to develop a school swimming programme on top of the dozens of classes already provided for all ages across East Renfrewshire. Councillor Mary Montague said at the time: “All eyes will be on the forthcoming Commonwealth Games and many will be inspired to take up swimming, which is why we are developing our programme even further."
