A popular city rapper has spoken about taking "some major wins" in the last year while he looks ahead to 2024.

Glasgow-based musician Bemz revealed that 2023 has been a "whirlwind" but one that he is thankful for.

He said: "I learned a lot this year, we took some major wins but also a lot of changes happened too and it taught me to always be ready for that.

"Things can change in a blink of an eye and you have to be ready for that.

"The shows I have done have been chaos but beautiful chaos. It has been what I have dreamt about and it is everything I have ever wanted.

"To know that people appreciate my music is just a good feeling."

Born in Nigeria before moving to South London when he was aged four,  Bemz, who supports Celtic, finally found his home in Stranraer where he settled down and studied sound production at Ayrshire College. He has since moved to Glasgow where he is dad to his little girl Nova,

He thanked the city for accepting him and his music.

He said: "Glasgow was the light at the end of the tunnel.

"It is a bigger pond and to see how other artists get to create their art has been great to see.

"Glasgow has really bought into my music."

Last year, Bemz hosted a football tournament for people in Glasgow while he also impressed international audiences at Tallinn Music Week in Estonia and Radio 1's Big Weekend in Dundee.

The previous year he was awarded DJ Mag’s Breakthrough MC/Vocalist Best of British Award and was crowned as BBC Introducing’s inaugural ‘Scottish Act of the Year’, and since then he has been on the rise.

But it is sharing milestone moments with his loved ones that he is really grateful for especially when he took to the stage at Edinburgh's Connect Festival.

He said: "Yeah to be able to show Nova all that we accomplished will one day be special and I hope she’s proud of me.

"It was beautiful to have my daughter witness me playing at a festival this year too. That is going to stay with me for the rest of my life.

"It has all been surreal and I am grateful to everyone who has listened, contacted or supported me."

And looking at what is set to be an even bigger 2024 on paper for the award-winning artist, Bemz says that there are a good few people he would like to collaborate with.

He said: "Yeah (next year) it really is the same, new music, football tournament and a headline show. Maybe a tour, who knows though.

"I have a few (would want to collaborate with) but I’d love to get a track with the likes of Brooke Combe, Joesef, Katie Gregson-MacLeod, The Snuts and to be fair a lot of Scottish acts.

"I would love a Young Fathers feature too. These are all to satisfy me as a person and I hope I can make some of them happen.

"But the biggest thing is I continue building meaningful relationships and connecting with people. I am always happy to try and chat with people when I can as I appreciate them."
