SCOTRAIL has issued an update about its services ahead of strike action beginning this weekend.

The train operator has confirmed its services will be unaffected when members of the train drivers' union ASLEF take part in industrial action.

Members of ASLEF at various companies across the UK plan to take strike action on Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3.

They will strike again between Tuesday, December 5 and Friday, December 8 and union members will also withdraw from non-contractual overtime between Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 9.

The strikes are a result of a dispute between ASLEF and other train operators in the UK and does not involve any ScotRail staff.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: "This dispute does not involve any ScotRail staff.

"It is between ASLEF and other train operators, which means we’ll be able to operate as normal when the union members at those operators take industrial action between Friday, 1 and Saturday, December 9.

"We would encourage anyone travelling to plan their journey in advance, as trains may be busier than normal due to customers of other operators travelling with ScotRail."
