A councillor has shared his support for a new initiative which aims to bring people together from diverse communities, share their perspectives and explore what is important to them.

Open days discussing how the East Renfrewshire Equalities Forum could work were held in Clarkston Library and Barrhead Foundry last week.

The new forum, facilitated by charity Outside the Box and supported by East Renfrewshire Council, will be community-led.

Cllr Chris Lunday attended the event in Barrhead which saw a number of local groups represented along with residents from diverse backgrounds.

He told the Barrhead News: “I am really excited to see this progress.

"There were so many wonderful ideas from people clearly very enthusiastic about helping the community they live in.

“We have so many wonderful groups doing amazing work in the local area but it’s so important that everyone's voice is heard and that people are truly represented and I think that this equality forum has the opportunity to do that.”
