An East Renfrewshire councillor attended a prestigious award ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers this week after being shortlisted for a top award.

As we previously reported, Chris Lunday, who represents Barrhead, Liboside and Uplawmoor, was recently named as a finalist in the 'Resilliance Champion' category at the Local Government Information Unit's (LGIU) Councillor Awards.

Although Heather Woodbridge of Orkney Islands Council ultimately picked up the prize, Cllr Lunday was presented with a certificate by with Jonathan Carr-West, the CEO of LGIU, in recognition of his hard work.

In the shortlist programme LGIU stated: “Cllr Lunday exemplifies a community driven councillor.

"He is not merely approachable, he actively builds productive relationships with community groups and businesses supporting them on issues from local transport to highlighting community asset transfers.”

Cllr Lunday described his shortlisting as an “honour” and said he was looking forward to “continuing to reach out to organisations and business.”

“We have such an amazing community in Barrhead, Liboside and Uplawmoor and I love spending time with local groups and businesses to try to make the area a better place,” he added.
