1. East Renfrewshire Council prepared to begin construction work on a major extension at Barrhead sports Centre as part of a £3.8 million project. The council was set to transform Barrhead Sports Centre into the state-of-the-art Barrhead Foundry.

2. A selfless Barrhead volunteer with “nothing but love” for the town was named Citizen of the Year. Rena McGuire was recognised for tirelessly volunteering in and around Barrhead for more than twenty years and being at the forefront of dozens of revolutionary projects and initiatives.

3. The team behind an award-winning £500,000 housing project was praised for their success. East Renfrewshire Council’s innovative mixed tenure improvement scheme won a national award after impressing judges.

4. We continued our Christmas-themed picture specials with the St John’s Church hall fayre. Dozens of stalls and their owners set up in the Aurs Road hall.

5. Neilston was full of Christmas cheer after a local councillor managed to source a tree and lights for the village. Councillor Paul O’Kane worked with businesses and residents in the area to bring a bit of colour and sparkle back to Neilston Main Street. A giant Scots Pine was erected on Grassland close to the village centre, along with dozens of lights placed throughout Neilston Main Street.

6. Primary one pupils were given hundreds of free books in goody bags to encourage them to pick up reading.
