1. Kind-hearted service users at Barrhead Centre played Santa when they gifted bikes to youngsters less fortunate than others. The good gesture came as the centre celebrated almost a year-and-a-half of running its bicycle workshop. Barrhead News:

2. Generous patrons of Barrhead’s Brig Inn helped raise £1,000 for Accord Hospice. Accord representative Ken Mathie was presented with a cheque for the bumper sum from owner Bud Gauld and the bar’s customers.

3. Pupils at an East Renfrewshire school were booked in for a challenge with a difference. The major outdoors test was being attempted by youngsters at Isobel Mair School.  It was set to see pupils take on no less than 50 different tasks out in the fresh air.

4. A Christmas craft extravaganza was held in Bourock Church with the Girls’ Brigade on hand to help out. The lower hall of the church was a-buzz with activity as shoppers tucked into home baking and light shopping for early Christmas presents. Tree decorations and hand made crafts donated by the youngsters from the Girls’ Brigade as well as members of the parish were on sale.

5. Barrhead pupils had their day in court as they re-enacted a historical legal case and even put their peers on trial. All six East Renfrewshire high schools took part in the event when Paisley Sheriff Court was closed to the public for the weekend. The day was split into two halves. The morning was spent in court dramatically reproducing an assault case, while the afternoon was spent re-enacting a civil case involving a snail and a ginger beer company.

6. Neilston Curling Club’s season got under way, with members taking part in a number of early competitions. The Opening Bonspiel was a very tight affair, with the winning team of Alan Griffiths, Billy Ferrie and Rhona Robinson, winning by one shot.
