1. Barrhead Rotary Club managed to raise more than £6,000 for disaster relief efforts in the Philippines. Working with their colleagues from Eastwood Rotary Club, members hosted a collection in Silverburn shopping centre to help the millions of people left homeless by Typhoon Haiyan.

2. Pupils at St Mark’s Primary celebrated Scottish Book week in style. As well as welcoming a very special visit from book character Mystical Mutt, the youngsters donned some colourful costumes for a Mad Hatter Tea Party.

3. A brilliant banner scheme boosted business in Barrhead. East Renfrewshire Council helped shops and businesses advertise — free of charge — on colourful lamppost banners in two main streets in the town.

4. Secondary school children were invited to come up with their own print patterns to be projected as part of the Electric Glen Lighting Festival. One winner was to be chosen from each of the seven secondary schools in the area, with the runners up set to have their work exhibited in Rouken Glen Park Pavilion.

5. Christmas fayre season got underway in Barrhead as St John’s Primary kicked off the seasonal festivities. Hundreds of people turned up to the event which featured dozens of tables filled to the brim with Christmas gifts, home-baking and bric-a-brac spread out across the school’s hall.

6. Neilston made it into the last 32 of the Scottish Junior Cup with a comfortable win over North Region Super League side Stonehaven at Brig O’Lea.
