BARRHEAD is set to be "lit up in spectacular fashion" this Christmas as the town prepares for several events.

It comes after All About Barrhead revealed this year that they will be "embarking on an exciting new chapter" in their quest to make the festive season unforgettable.

As part of it, they won't be hosting a Christmas lights switch-on but instead creating a Christmas "centrepiece" in the area - which will include a six-metre-high LED tree.

Residents are being invited to attend the "grand illumination" of the tree when the day comes later this month (a date has not yet been revealed).

Here's a list of events being held in the run-up to Christmas in the town:

  • Santa's Magical Postbox (November 18 until December 18).

This event will allow youngsters to post a letter to Santa from All About Barrhead's postbox at the Foundry or F&M Hairdressing on Cross Arthurlie Street.

  • The Magical Elf Hunt (December 1 until December 24).

As part of this event, residents will be invited to hunt for Santa's little helpers scattered throughout the town with prizes being up for grabs.

  • Christmas Market in the Foundry (November 25 and November 26).
  • Christmas Crafts (throughout November).
  • Santa's Grotto in the Foundry (November 25 and December 2).

Additional investment for all these events has been contributed by the All About Barrhead BID - a contribution of over 150 local businesses who are dedicated to making the town "wonderful" during the festive season.

Andy Dunlop, BID manager said: "What we have in store for Barrhead this year is very exciting. We've decided to forego the traditional 'Christmas Light Switch On' event because it's time for something bigger and more magical that can be part of the town for years to come, each Christmas.

"Barrhead deserves a tree like this after previous trees didn’t quite live up to expectations, and we're thrilled to finally have been able to do something of this scale!"

The town's Christmas tree has been made possible through the support of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

A spokesperson for UKSPF said: "We are thrilled to be part of this exciting initiative in Barrhead.

"Supporting innovation and community projects is at the heart of what we do.

"We believe that this spectacular tree will not only light up the town but also bring joy and togetherness to the community during the festive season."
