A DREAM turned into reality for an excited young lad after he was personally invited to spend a special day with the area's cops.

George White, four, was asked along to Barrhead police station with his mum, Kimberley Wilson Nicol, and dad Ash White, after being spotted at the town's Halloween parade.

During the event, nursery-goer George was dressed up as a police officer, which caught the eye of PC Rudie McMahon.

The Barrhead youngster, who loves all things police and wants to be a cop when he's older, was then asked by the kind-hearted local officer to patrol with him at the front of the march.

We previously reported that Kimberley, 34, said her son was "absolutely buzzing" about it and "just ran without any hesitation" to begin patrolling.

Following the event, the local policing team decided to invite the "budding recruit" along to the station to meet the crime-fighting team, have a look around, and check out a patrol car.

Before heading into the station to get his "shift" underway, Kimberley said George was "ridiculously excited".

She added: "We were waiting for his dad to arrive outside the station and he was saying 'Dad can catch up'.

"When going in, he never even looked to see if me or Ash were coming with him.

"He was so excited to see all the policemen and women. We were taken into a room which George called 'his office' and within a few minutes, PC McMahon came in to see him.

"George recognised him immediately and happily ran over to say hello."

Following the reunion, the youngster and PC McMahon spent some time together before East Renfrewshire's police mascot, Jackton, and several other officers came to meet George.

The future cop was then taken outside to see a Road Policing Scotland patrol car, before being taken for a ride in a different vehicle along with PC Rudie McMahon and his mum.

Kimberley said during the "patrol", George was "ecstatic".

"He was looking for 'bad guys'," she added.

After the drive, the local team had a special surprise in store for the wee one.

Officers presented George with a goody bag full of gifts - including a police teddy and police car, which his mum said "haven't left his hands since he got them".

Kimberley revealed his favourite part of the trip was seeing PC Rudie McMahon again.

After George's action-packed day, he "crashed out" after using so much energy and excitement during the visit.

His mum and dad shared their delight for their son.

"It was nice to see him so happy, smiling, and stealing the show," Kimberley said.

"He is such a little chatterbox so having so many people to talk to and listen to him, he was in his element.

"We are both so proud of him and everything he has got through his little life.

"It was his dream come true and more. We couldn't have asked for a better visit.

"I would just like to thank all the staff and officers who all made George's visit so special.

"He will remember how kind everyone was and will be talking about it for weeks to come."

PC Steven Wallace said: "PC McMahon was on duty during the Barrhead Hallowe'en Parade when he waved to George.

"When he noticed George was in police uniform, he decided to use a valuable 'extra resource' and take him round the parade route.

"George's mum Kimberley got in touch via social media to say that being 'in service' had made his weekend.

"Realising that we had a budding recruit on our hands, we arranged for George to visit the station, meet colleagues from Roads Policing and see a police car.

"We hope he had a great day!"
