PLANS to create a new personal training and fitness facility in Barrhead have been approved by the council.

It comes after the local authority validated a planning application to change a former shop on 178 Main Street into a sports centre on Thursday, September 21.

The applicant is looking to change the site and create an area for "personal training, community group training, boxing, sports performance, and sports recovery purposes".

According to the proposal, the space will be fitted out with the appropriate training kit along with suitable changing and washing facilities.

It is understood the building was most recently used as a post office and a newsagent.

Council bosses approved the plans, subject to conditions, on Wednesday, November 1.
