The final countdown is on as the town prepares to celebrate the return of The Big Barrhead Hallowe’en Parade this weekend.

The event, which is in its sixth year, will bring a sense of eerie excitement when it takes place tomorrow, Saturday, October 28.

There will be pumpkin carving, funfair rides and crafts from 12pm before the spectacular parade winds through Barrhead with music and mesmerising street performers leading the way.

Andy Dunlop from All About Barrhead (AAB), the Business Improvement District (BID) who have organised the event, said the day promises to be “filled with thrilling activities.”

The parade will set off at 5.30pm from the Tesco car park, before heading down Cross Arthurlie Street, Carlibar Road, and towards Main Street via Dovecothall Roundabout.

It will subsequently disperse at the Asda community square, where there will be live entertainment from Pulse FM who will announce the winners of the prizes up for grabs.

The day will then close in style as the spectacular firework display lights up the sky.

As always, the parade will be a chance for those taking part to show off their creative costumes - and the best will take home a prize.

Thanks to the generous donation from sponsors Barrhead McDonald’s, the best dressed group will receive £500, which can be put towards whatever the group sees fit, including supporting group members, upgrading facilities or equipment or expanding the group.

Two runners up will also receive a £200 and £100 donation from the event sponsors.

“We’re thrilled that Barrhead McDonald’s have sponsored the Big Barrhead Hallowe’en Parade,” added Andy.

“This has directly allowed us to increase our prize fund to further support the local community groups that Barrhead thrives on.”

Those who are not a part of a group will also be in with the chance of picking up a prize with AAB offering £50 East Renfrewshire Gift Cards to the best-dressed individuals.
