A councillor has praised a community hub after hearing about the exciting future of the building from staff, volunteers and service users.

Cllr Chris Lunday, who represents Barrhead, Liboside and Uplawmoor, visited the Barrhead Centre, which is in the carpark across from Barrhead Station.

It is used by the learning disabilities team of East Renfrewshire's Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).

Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire (VAER) also recently moved their Barrhead projects to the location after vacating their Kelburn Street base.

Cllr Lunday told the Barrhead News: “The Barrhead Centre is a fantastic resource in the local area and I am delighted to see VAER in this space.”

A number of projects run from the building including Mellow Velo, which is a bike workshop which sells and fixes bikes.

This is staffed by service users of the Barrhead Centre.

There are also gardening projects which utilise a vast open and accessible garden out of the back of the building.

VAER run a number of projects and the staff from HSPC told Cllr Lunday they see the centre 'turning into a community hub' with their partnership working.

“There are a number of very exciting projects and I am hoping that this amazing facility can be utilised to its full potential and that more people start to use it as a community space,” added Cllr Lunday.

“I am looking forward to seeing the amazing work continue in the future.”
