The cream of Barrhead's artistic talent will stage an exhibition of their work this week.

Members of the Barrhead Artists are to display a range of paintings done in oil, pencil, pastel and acrylic.

The exhibition will be held in the community hall at St Andrew's Church on Saturday, from 10pm until 4pm.

The club, formed in 1993, has been showing its work for more than 20 years.

In the past, the annual display took place over two weeks but that has been shortened in recent years due to the cost of hall rental.

Barrhead Artists founder member and organiser Archie Brock, 84, said: "There will be about 100 exhibits, from abstract to landscapes to animals and portraits.

"There will be something for all tastes and entry is free.

"We have a wide range of members, from beginners to those who are almost at professional standard.

"They range in age from early-20s to mid-80s and we meet every Thursday evening at the Auchenback Resource Centre in Barrhead."

Archie, who is a retired civil engineer and moved to Barrhead from Glasgow in 1990, said the group would welcome new members.

"It is a very informal setting and people can come along and work at their own pace," he added.

"From time to time we have demonstrations by professional artists, which always prove popular."
