Neilston Community Choir is inviting residents to join them for a community concert, karaoke session and disco this Friday (October 13).

The event is being held at Crofthead Bowling Club from 7.30pm to 10pm, in aid of Neilston’s Santa Sleigh refurbishment appeal.

The informal evening, which will also involve a raffle, will see the choir sing a selection of mostly modern songs.

The group’s secretary Elaine Cook told the Barrhead News: “It will just be a fun evening to involve the community.

“There are so many causes but we felt it would be nice to do something for something local."

As well as inviting people along to the event, the group is also on the look for new members.

The choir was formed in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic as residents looked for a way to boost their own morale.

Open to everyone in the community who enjoys singing, it has a broad age range of members who meet on Wednesday evenings in the Bank hub in Neilston.

They are led by professional singer and talented singer Stephanie Strachan and enjoy singing a varied repertoire from contemporary to gospel songs.

“We have 19 members at the moment and would like to expand the choir,” added Elaine.

“It is very much a community choir, so there's no auditions and members don't have to be able to read music.

“Stephanie is a performer as much as she's a singer, so the sessions are always fun. We laugh from start to finish.

“Coming together and singing in a group and learning harmonies, there's something very uplifting about that. You’re creating something from nothing and it's a really good sound.

“Everybody works well together and it bonds the group so you forge good friendships. They are a great crowd.

Tickets are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for children.
