AN East Renfrewshire supermarket worker is set to swap the store for the stage next month to raise cash for a good cause.

Gillian Gilmour from M&S Newton Mearns will join colleagues Christopher Gilmour, Clare Williams, and Sarah Young from M&S Silverburn, Adam McMinn from M&S Braehead, and Amy Straiton from M&S Argyle Street Glasgow to take part and compete against others in the Beatson cancer charity’s "Strictly Beatson" dance show.

The group, who have little to no dance experience, are aiming to raise at least £8,500 to support the good cause.

As part of the event, they have been receiving dance lessons from professional dancers, Pamela Logan and Ian Peebles.

The group is being sponsored by the M&S Silverburn store manager, who was inspired to support the organisation after receiving treatment there herself.

The retail worker was diagnosed with cancer in 2004 and again in 2007 and, in both occurrences, received outstanding care from Beatson West.

Linda said: "After attending Strictly Beatson as a guest last year, I was determined to get a group of dancers together for 2023.

"My team is made up of six colleagues from four M&S stores across Scotland West, all of whom have loved the experience, being trained by professional dancers, and learning a new skill.

"I'm looking forward to seeing them hit the dancefloor in October and am proud of the efforts M&S has made to raise money for Beatson West, a charity that is very close to my heart."

As part of the show, Marks and Spencer's will be donating £1,000 in addition to the total amount raised to support the charity.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 7, in Glasgow.
