Barrhead residents are invited to a public meeting this week to discuss plans to build up to 375 new homes to the south of the town.

The first stage public consultation event, organised by Cala Homes West, will take place at Barrhead Foundry on Wednesday, August 30, from 2pm to 7pm.

A Proposal of Application Notice was submitted to East Renfrewshire Council on July 31 and Cala is keen to hear feedback from the local community to help shape its approach to the development and design of the neighbourhood.

The site near Balgraystone Road, Springfield Road and Aurs Road is allocated for residential development as part of the Barrhead South Strategic Development Opportunity in the adopted East Renfrewshire Local Development Plan.

Cala has said indicative designs suggest that the site will be best suited for up to 375 homes, helping to address the demand for high-quality and sustainable properties in the region.

This will include a broad mix of house types to suit a range of prospective residents.

The second stage community consultation will take place at Barrhead Foundry on Thursday, September 28, from 2pm to 7pm, where the project team will share detailed information, as influenced by the initial feedback gathered from the community and stakeholders.

Gillian Hessett, land manager at Cala Homes West, said: "Barrhead is a vibrant town that we hope to enhance with a fantastic array of new homes, complemented with pockets of green space and attractive landscaping across the new neighbourhood.

"Ahead of the consultation events, we have been engaging with stakeholders including local community councils as we seek to gather as much detailed feedback as possible as we work towards submitting a full planning application to East Renfrewshire Council in October 2023. We look forward to welcoming members of the local community and hearing their views."

East Renfrewshire Council owns the site and Cala has been identified as the preferred bidder to take forward the residential development.
