1. Two hard-working residents were recognised for their volunteering efforts when they met Her Majesty the Queen at St James’s Palace in London. Both Anne Marie Kennedy and Gordon Parr had been volunteering for a combined 15 years at the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP).

2. Barrhead youngsters visited the Riverside Museum as part of an East Renfrewshire summer camp.

3. Pupils at Barrhead High and St Luke’s enjoyed record-breaking exam success, with students at all levels achieving remarkable results. Five S5 pupils from Barrhead High managed to achieve five A grades.

4. A Barrhead man took the reigns at one of the capital’s finest hotels. Graeme Barclay replaced the charismatic David Welch as the general manager of The George Hotel in Edinburgh.

5. Pipers gave a rousing send-off for Neilston author Jimmy Higgins and his cousin Johnnie McGuire as they set off on a 600-mile trek to a First World War battlefield in France. The walk aimed to raise cash to fund a monument to Neilston’s fallen war heroes.

6. Around 50 youngsters raced into action at Barrhead Sports Centre during a summer holiday camp.
