A growing project has been busy creating a community herbal garden in an East Renfrewshire village.

Incredible Edible Neilston is part of a UK-network which encourages people to locally cultivate their own produce.

As part of their latest venture at their planter on Kirkstyle Lane, gardening and apothecary sessions are also being hosted.

Explaining more about the new herbal garden, Cat told the Barrhead News: “We built all the beds from pallets donated by Heron Bros, who’re building the school (the new shared learning campus in Neilston).

“The beds are themed. For example there is one for children's health and another for digestion.

Barrhead News:

For the initiative, they have teamed up Movement in Thyme CIC, a not-for-profit social enterprise, who aim to create sustainable, resilient communities, improving mental and physical wellbeing and reducing social isolation through community workshops, movement activities and gardening.

They also aim to create biodiversity and a healthy planet through "historical context, the power of herbal knowledge, nature connection, and herbal growing".

Barrhead News:

“Movement in Thyme deliver monthly workshops on how to use the herbs grown there and transform them into useful vinegars and creams,” added Cat.

“Participants get to take finished products home and the excess goes to a community apothecary, which people can access for free.

“Currently it all goes to MILK in Govanhill, but there are plans for a community apothecary in Neilston.”
