AN investigation is underway after a swing in a Newton Mearns park was set on fire by mindless vandals.
Officers were called to the blaze in a play park to the rear of Fairweather Hall on Barrhead Road in the town at 5am on Friday, June 2.
We previously reported that East Renfrewshire Council hit out at the vandalism to the park saying they were “extremely disappointed” about the incident.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 5am on Friday, June 2, police were called after a swing was damaged following a fire in a swing park to the rear of Fairweather Hall, Barrhead Road Newton Mearns.
“Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
“East Renfrewshire Council is aware of the damage.”
An East Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “We are extremely disappointed to see this vandalism in Fairweather Park.
“We’re committed to maintain and our public spaces, and less than two years ago this park had benefitted from a £130,000 upgrade, so mindless incidents like this are massively frustrating.
“At a time when budgets are already stretched, we will have to spend more money on repairs and making the space safe again.”
