A PLAY park in Newton Mearns has been targeted by mindless vandals.
A swing in Fairweather Park's play area was set on fire recently.
Hitting out at the vandalism, East Renfrewshire Council have said they were “extremely disappointed” about the incident.
In a statement, they said: “We are extremely disappointed to see this vandalism in Fairweather Park.
“We’re committed to maintaining and improving our public spaces, and less than two years ago this park had benefitted from a £130,000 upgrade, so mindless incidents like this are massively frustrating.
“At a time when budgets are already stretched, we will have to spend more money on repairs and making the space safe again.
“It has been reported to Police Scotland.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5 am on Friday, 2 June 2023, police were called after a swing was damaged following a fire in a swing park to the rear of Fairweather Hall, Barrhead Road Newton Mearns. Enquiries are ongoing in to the incident.
The children’s play area in the park was created back in 2021 as part of wider upgrade works to the much-loved greenspace.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for comment.
